Yogaga Mats FAQs

Why are your mats made with PVC? Up to what age can my child use a Yogaga Mat? Isn’t yoga a bit too “passive” for an active child? You have many questions and we try to answer as many as we can. Why are Yogaga mats made out of PVC. You would think that something more natural would be a better option for babies and children?

Yogaga’s PVC based Premium 6mm mats are thoughtfully produced with the comfort of children and parents at mind. They are soft to the touch, provide premium, cushiony support and are extremely hygenic. It is true that today there are adult yogamats available that use more natural materials like jute, cotton or rubber. Though these mats are great options for some adults, they are often less comfortable and practical; jute-based mats have an organic “roughness” and might therefore not be ideal for sensitive baby skin. Cotton-based mats are quite thin and therefore do not provide the cushiony support like a PVC-based mat like a Yogaga mat. Natural rubber can cause problems due to latex allergies. And let’s admit it: Babies and tots are messy. The last thing moms are waiting for a more items to put in the laundry every day.  Fabric-based mats require the laundry for cleaning while Yogaga’s mats can be wipes clean in a matter of seconds with a damp cloth. Some novelty mats can be very expensive and Yogaga has made a conscious decision to make it’s products affordable for many families. In summary, though Yogaga is always looking to produce the most environmentally kind products, we do not want to do so at the expense of the comfort of children and their parents.

Up to what age can Yogaga mats be used by children?
Yoagaga mats are 18 wide by 45 inches long. They are made for newborns up to around age 7-8 as the average height of children at age 8 is around 45 inches. Of course this is an average so it depends on the height of your individual child. You want your child to be able to lay comfortable stretched out and have both heels and head resting on the mat.

Yogaga mats are premium thickness. What does this mean and why is this important?
The thickness of a yoga mat has a lot to do with how comfortable it is — too thin, and little knee may get banged up.  Our mats are made with their customer in mind: tiny people from a few weeks to 8 years old that benefit from the comfort and support of an extra cushiony mat. A standard yoga mat is about 1/8 inch (or 3 mm) thick. Premium Yogaga baby and child yoga and play mats are extra thick, to be precise they are double the thickness of a regular mat at 1/4 inch (or 6mm).
