I have heard from my friends that getting kids to eat their fruits, especially their vegetables, is one of the hardest things to do… well beside potty training. Smoothies are a great way to ensure that your kids are getting essential vitamins and minerals they need. Smoothies are also a great way to incorporate beneficial plant based superfoods into you and your families life style. Since fruits and vegetables come in a rainbow of colours there are so many different,  delicious, pretty and fun smoothies you can make.

For Yogaga’s November smoothie, I decided to create something that was fitting for the month. When I think of November I think of the colour red, obviously one of the big
reasons is for Remembrance Day. The other reasons I think of red in November is for the amazing vibrant red fruits, such as pomegranates, cranberries, red apples and red
grapes. Red fruits and vegetables are known for their phytonutrients such as lycopene, ellagic acid, quercetin and hesperidin. These nutrients are beneficial in regulating blood pressure levels, reduce tumor growth, lowering bad cholesterol levels and reducing the risk of certain types of cancer. Red fruits and vegetables also contain vitamin A and C, which are powerful antioxidants That have been shown to keep blood vessels healthy, protect the body’s cells from damage and preventing heart disease. Your kids will love the smoothie because it taste great!! As parents you can feel good that you are giving them important nutrients their body needs. This Totally Rad Red Smoothie as always is plant powered, raw, vegan, dairy free, nut free, gluten free, egg free and soy free.

Totally Rad Red Smoothie ingredients:
1 Cup Coconut Water
1 Red Apple (your choice), core removed
1/2 Cup Strawberries, sliced and frozen
10 Red Grapes, frozen
10-12 Whole Cranberries, frozen
1/4 Red Pepper, seeds removed
1 Tbsp Sweetener – agave, honey, coconut necter

1. Add all ingredients to blender (except sweetner) and blend for approx 40-60 secs
2. Taste, add sweetener according to your kiddie’s taste

FBR Tips

1. I recommend freezing the grapes and cranberries, if not the smoothie consistency is too thin. It is better to have a thicker smoothie and thin it out with extra coconut water.
2. For this smoothie, I do recommend adding a sweetener. When you add the red pepper it takes away some of the sweetness.
